Simone Shailes is this years “name” from CSM, and you can see why from the photos. She made beautiful hand knitting garments, constructed with loops and tiers with an unusual inspiration source of “girls with funny big hairdos.” She was awarded the L’Oreal Professional Fashion Design Award.
Previously graduating from Brighton University, her final collection then was knitwear based although I wouldn’t recommend viewing that one, it’s not that “wow”. The problem with Knitwear courses is that they don’t know what is “fashionable”, so if you’re looking to start in knitwear design you’re better off doing joint honours with fashion design or just specialising in it during your degree. However, she has definately come a long way since then and it seems CSM has done a good job on teaching design skills.
For me, personaly I love the large metal fastening features which make the designs look a lot more modern and give it that extra special touch.
For more info see her rather empty looking website! www.simoneshailes.com I think its in progress!
