Pandora Bahrami, 23. Nottingham Trent University
Your Design Background:
1 year Placement at Swatch studio, Acorn, based in Nottingham. I knitted swatches for the year, specialising in the domestic machine and crochet. I was in the final 10 shortlisted for the Maxmara competition this year. I was nominated for Visionary Knit and Textiles award at GFW this year.
What was the concept behind your collection?
I looked at the way metal coins were traditionally used in Iranian clothing as my main inspiration. I explored different ways in which I could give this a modern, western twist. I designed body conscious shapes to enhance the female body, something which is greatly censored in Iran today.
Did you design your collection with a particular person/customer in your mind?
A powerful female.
What machine(s) did you use for your collection/ or what techniques did you use?
The 7gg and 3gg domestic machines and various crocheting techniques.
What made you pursue knitwear?
I have always had a strong interest in Knit, it combines textiles and fashion together which is a perfect mix for me.
Why did you choose to go to Nottingham Trent?
It is the only BA degree course which specialises purely in knit so the facilities are brilliant! They have a huge range of machines which inspires you to explore different techniques.
What do you think of your course at Nottingham Trent?
I think the placement year (year 3) provides you with invaluable experience, so would recommend it to anyone who would want to do a fashion knitwear degree.
Which piece out of your collection took the longest to make?
The black long dress as there is lots of fine crochet built up in layers around the bottom.
What are you’re plans for your career after graduation?
I am looking for a job/experience in fashion knitwear so I can gain as much experience as possible.
Will you be selling your collection?
Yes.

hi Katy
you are right there’s a great influence of Clare Tough in this collection but to say that they are duplicates of it make you a bit blind about the general structure of Bahrami’s clothing.
It is 2 different effects for me no matter how close the techniques are.

This collection is really nice but is a total copy of Clare Tough AW06. Check out CT catwalk-the outfits here are basically duplicates. I’m shocked-this won’t go unnoticed.

Hey Jen,
I think is it so great that you are running around interviewing all the knitwear student! Very informative!
Thank you so much for doing it!
