I absolutely love knitwear, and have been itching to start a blog…so here is ’knit kicks’. When browsing through knitting blogs, I would never find any posts about knitwear on the catwalks. Most of the knit based blogs out there are based on personal knitting projects.   So I started my own little blog project…to expose knitters to something new… steering you away from highstreet or knitting patterns and directing you to new artistic or catwalk looks. Knitting is not just an old woman clicking her needles in a rocking chair. It is entering a different generation now and more and more designers are hopping on the knit wagon.

Most people won’t really get why I admire these things that they think are ugly, but the creations I talk about I love purely because they are different and more interesting than looking at a cardigan. Some of the garments, please remember…are not knitted to be worn. They are merely stand out pieces to create attention, or artwork. Honestly, if you say ” I would never wear that!” it’s definately not the first time I would’ve heard that!

  • Don’t know if you know Guðrun and Guðrun – the faroese knitdesigners – but I can recommend you to take a look inside their website http://www.gudrungudrun.com
They are very popular and their knitwear is known through all Europe :)

  • I´ve just discovered your blog! I´m also a HUGE knitwear fan and plan to study Fashion Design with knitwear next year! Just love all your posts, hope you decide to continue for another year! THANK YOU!

  • i just discovered your blog…loving it!!

(i agree w/ your philosophy about most knitting blogs…too many ‘crafty home knitting projects’!)

  • hi,

I’ve found your blog very useful and inspirational!!
As you said, there aren’t many blogs or webs about knitwear (a part from the hand knitting stuff). So, I think you are doing a great job!!

thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m flattered!!!

    take care,
    ana

  • Hi,
I am a huge fan of your site and would love for you to take a look at my work. I am trying to put together a show next year to debut my work……I tend to mix knit with macrame.

Please e-mail me back to let me know what you think!
    when you have time :)

  • I am one just like you, I do knitwear design and really any other kind of design you can think of.
I think you should check out this website, you’ll like it.

    In any case, you ROCK!

    • haha i’m already on ravelry. I don’t go on it that much thought because when I do I cause outrage. I don’t think traditional knitters like the idea of change!

  • Love your blog! Finally got it up on my ‘nice things’ link list (there was something wonky going on). jCx

  • Thank YOU! I’ve been trying & trying to add your blog/site to my favourites (‘nice things’) list & it’s the darndest thing, I can’t seem to add. So thanks for the Louise Goldin tip, and I’m not gonna give up on this. I’ll just take a page from Scarlett O-Hara’s book (another stylish & rather enterprising woman: after all, look what she did with curtains) and assume that tomorrow, after all, will be another day. My husband’s already fast asleep and besides, it’s almost time for Damages!

  • Hi. My name is Che and I came across your blog, knitkicks.wordpress.com . I found a lot of informative stuff, and your posts are really good. I have a small online store, homedecorations.com , that you might want to check out. Maybe you and your readers will be interested in what the store has to offer.
I’m not trying to sell you anything, I just want to know if we can exchange links? You can send me the details – Title and URL that you want me to put. I’ll also send you my site’s details, if you agree.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

Just found your blog… you rock!

  • your site is incredible and has been an invaluable research tool; i am working on a book for stewart tabori chang and searching for outstanding new designers contrasting traditional knits. could you please contact me? i would love to chat with you about this project.

my blog reflects some preliminary work i did in copenhagen, but as you will notice, all of my previous work is in architecture, not that far removed from the structure of knitting…
